Beatrice

http://goodbadandugly2.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/wicked-witch2.jpg

The reason I like Beatrice so much is because of the controversy she can cause by just walking into a room. She is obviously a caring woman but do to past afflictions that have emotionally scarred her. She no longer is able to express any love for anyone or thing due to the teasing through her childhood. I chose a witch as her picture because I think it fits the best. She can be heartless and cold but at the same time she is also misunderstood.

A Raisin in the Sun

A Raisin in the Sun is my favorite movie this semester. The reason it is my favorite one is because there are several family troubles. But regardless of these family troubles they still stay strong and stick together. If someone threatens their family all of them stand tall together to face the problem. I find it rather inspiring actually. The reason I chose this picture is because it represents a broken home. But no matter what happens to the foundation it is still standing strong. Which reminds me of the entire Younger family.

Triumph in the Face of Adversity

To triumph in the face of adversity is to overcome obstacles no matter how big or small they might be. But it is also more then that. It is a matter of seeing your glass half full, instead of half empty. So with no matter what you face you are always looking for a bright side, in order to overcome what lies ahead.
One example of this is when Tillie wins the science fair. Due to the position that her mother has basically forced them into. She is forced to overcome the constant verbal beat downs by her mother. The reason for me choosing this picture is because no matter what you face, with enough dedication you can achieve it. You can grab the key of success and open the door to an all new world.
Another I think would be how even though her mom is hateful and cruel she still seems to find the bright side of things. Viewing her glass of water as half full.

Self-Image

Self-Image is a matter of how one sees themselves. If you worry about your self-image you might constantly beat yourself down about how you look only making a bad situation worse. Someone who doesn't necessarily care about their self-image has a much more relaxing life. I choose this picture to represent self-image because I thought it did it justice. Simply because you might not always see someone the same as they see you. Everyone's view is different, and the only important one is yours.
An example from our story would be how Ruth is always wearing form fitting clothes. She cares to much on what people think and how the see her.
An contrasting example would be how Tillie is the opposite. She is more worried about her future and what is going to happen then her clothes and what others think.

The Inability to Make Meaningful Human Connections

http://www.itxp.ca/access/images/brain_cage.jpg

The inability to make meaningful human connections is simple. You talk yourself into the mind frame that you cannot do it. That you are a loser and those other people do not like you. In a since the fact that you are inside the a box with everyone walking freely outside. You might feel alone and in a sense worthless. I choose this picture because it shows a brain in a cage. It shows this them simply and correctly.
An example from our reading is how Tillie is rather withdrawn from society. She keeps to herself and studies.
Then another one would be Beatrice, and how she is scared and emotionally fragile when Ruth calls her Betty the Loon.

Dreams

Dreams. Dreams are a very unique thing in which they can happen while you sleep or in your everyday life. Some might dream of becoming a doctor, others president. Then there is the dreaming in the sense that your asleep and your subconscious takes over. I chose this picture of Starry Night, because it reminds me of a dream world, in which anything is possible.
An example of dreams in the story would be the dream of Mr. Mayo killing himself, and sending her into a panic attack.
An everyday example in the story is Tillie's dream to succeed and get away from her overbearing hateful mother.

Life Versus Death

Life versus death can be tearing someone down or lifting them up, and then there is the obvious walking among the living and being six feet under. NOT DONE.
